Hey there 👋,

In this issue we discuss:

  • Strictly VC newsletter acquired (solo creator)

  • The Alerts Daily newsletter acquired (solo creator)

  • Paid recommendations work

Cheers!

💰 The Alerts Daily Acquired

Just after we published last week’s newsletter, beehiiv put out a great Creator Spotlight on how LeQwane, a solo creator, went from 0 to 35K subs and an exit inside a year with his The Alerts Daily Newsletter:

The most interesting bits for us were that there was no paid ads, it was all organic growth leveraging social media:

“All of our subscribers came from organic social media. A big driver of everything we did was short-form video. We did Instagram, Tik Tok, and YouTube shorts — basically all of the platforms that helped push out organic short-form videos.”

And then leveraging beehiiv’s referral program, to unlock exclusive content based on referrals.

Leqwane sold the newsletter to an early advertiser, which is something we have come across multiple times.

💰 Strictly VC Acquired

TechCrunch has acquired the StrictlyVC newsletter by Connie Loizos, another solo creator:

Connie launched the publication a decade ago back in 2013, and grew it to 60K subs before it was acquired. For more info check out the exclusive on Axios.

☝️ One More Thing

We’ve covered the concerns and benefits of doing paid recommendations over the last couple of weeks, and the data is in.

beehiiv just added metrics into the Boosts monetization dashboard and most newsletters we have seen are getting well above 50% open rate from subscribers that come through other newsletters promoting them:
