Hey there 👋,

In this week’s newsletter I discuss:

  • The impact from unsubscribing 30% from my main newsletter

  • A giveaway by Duuce

  • Gumroad enables upsells

  • Beehiiv launching an epic new traffic/monetization channel

😥 Unsubscribing 30%

Last week I talked about making sales from a breakup email.

Now it’s time to remove those who didn’t click and haven’t clicked for 60 days in this segment in beehiiv:

This is out of a total subscriber base of 4350:

In beehiiv you simply hit bulk unsubscribe:

The previous email before the cull had 1434 opens, although the 33% open rate was strangely low (you can see it was averaging 41%):

And after the cull (this wednesday’s email) I got 1562 opens and a 52% open rate:

Sounds good right?

Well I’m glad my open rate is now over 50%, but the email from two weeks ago actually had 1800 opens. It’s too early to tell, but I’m hoping I reach new opened email heights due to this.

Duuce recently did some spring cleaning of their list too, removing 15% and had a similar less than stunning result:

So. Spring-cleaning happened (we pruned 250 subscribers) and the results are… OK!

We gained 5 points of Open rate on our last issue. Curious to see about today’s…

5 points is NO major change. But it’s a small step. Considering we cleaned a bit more than 15% of our database, we could have expected a bigger impact.

But well…. Transparency it is!

We’ll have to see if the trends continues and how long it would take until we see a decrease in open rate again. But we are satisfied for now. Every gain… is a gain! :)

Talking of Duuce, they are doing a giveaway:

Which includes my newsletter product amongst many:

📈 The Newsletter Platform Built for Growth

I’ve tried almost every newsletter platform, from Drip to ConvertKit to Substack (running 6 newsletters there at one point) to now beehiiv.

beehiiv was founded by some of the earliest employees of the Morning Brew, so they know what it takes to grow a newsletter from zero to millions.

You get built-in referral functionality, true customization, analytics where you can see the results of paid acquisition and now built-in paid recommendations - a new traffic channel to grow your subscriber base, and a new way to monetize your newsletter.

🆙 Gumroad Launch Upsells

Gumroad, the platform I used for my products, just launched upsells. Now if anyone buys either of my $47 tripwires:

Which are on the thank you pages and within welcome emails etc of my other two newsletters, (linked below) they get hit with a $50 off offer for my main $247 product The Newsletter Is The Business.

This is how it looks:

🚀 Beehiiv launches boosts

Yesterday I was setting up a Twitter ad campaign for my main Digital Asset Investor newsletter and then beehiiv Boosts happened:

Rather than mess around with paid social campaigns, like on Twitter where you pay per click even for conversions, with Boosts you can simply set your CPA and then have other newsletters on the platform apply to send you subscribers at that exact rate.

You also only pay for engaged subscribers:

It'd be like if you were using Facebook ads to grow, but Facebook refunded you for any subscriber who wasn't actively engaging with your newsletter.

This truly is transformational - beehiiv just created not only the best traffic channel to grow your subscriber base (with real engaged subscribers), but also a way for every newsletter on the platform to monetize:

And they now have more offers than any existing platform such as Sparkloop Upscribe.

This is what my offer looks like to other newsletters:

I’m paying beehiiv $3 per subscriber and they are paying out $2.40 (20% rake) to newsletter operators. And it’s truly scalable with no minimums, you just fund your wallet.

And I’ve already had my first subscriber come in from Investing Journal:

Ok that’s it from me, I’ll be back in your inbox next Friday or sooner if you subscribe to my other newsletters on beehiiv above.

Cheers!
